At around 2 pm we hopped on the bus toward Helensvale Railway where we would then catch a train to Brisbane.
All of us on the train!
On our orientation field trip to Byron Bay we made some friends who attend Griffith Universities campus in Brisbane. They were nice enough to provide us with a place to stay for the night.
Once we got their our hosts cooked us some sausages and hamburgers, on the barbie, and we washed those down with some Korean beer that had a very interesting name.
Think it really gives you clean skin? I doubt it.
After dinner it was time to set out for a night on the town.
On the bus headed for the city
Some of the boys
The next morning Kevin, Clint, Justin and I woke up and headed back into the city to get something to eat and check out Brisbane.
Our first priority was to find a place to eat. After walking around for awhile we found a Mexican restaurant and we decided we would give Australia's Mexican food a try.
The boys had burritos and beer.
While I had nachos, which were actually pretty good...
and a diet coke!
After lunch we walked around the city of Brisbane for a little bit. There was a market going on and I really wanted to look at all the different booths....but the boys didn't seem to have much patience for that so I had to refrain.
And in the middle of the market hung a man on a unicycle...
View from opposite direction
We also walked past a man playing a didgeridoo!
He wanted a picture with me...
He made me wear those ridiculous glasses! I couldn't see a thing!
And because they don't have beaches in Brisbane they have to make their own.
On our way back to the train station Kevin, Clint and I had a strong craving for some ice cream. The first place we saw was Movenpick Ice Cream Shop.
The ice cream was a little over priced but who am I kidding...EVERYTHING is over priced in Australia! Nevertheless my Creme Brulee hit the spot.
We made it to the train station with about three minutes to spare. However, we realized that we were on the wrong side of the tracks for the way we wanted to go and we had go all the way around to the other side to catch our train. We literally had to run, ice cream in hand, to make it on the train.
We would have been fine, had we missed the train, because another train would be coming 30 minutes after this train but we were all tired and didn't want to have to sit in the cold for 30 more minutes.
We were all able to breath a sigh of relief when we sat down in our seats.
It was a great trip and we all had an amazing time! I may just have to make a trip back to Brisbane on a Saturday, without the boys, so I can spend sometime at the Lifestyle Market!

The fake beach is funny! We have one of those in Bakersfield. It is called Beach Park on the banks of the mighty Kern River. It only works when there is actually water in the riverbed.
